No longer just bookends to start and finish a
night in explosive fashion, cocktails are now
bonafide gastro choices as suited to food
matching as any glass of beer or wine.
The brainchild of chef Daniel Sterpini and
mixologist Adam Keane, Cocktail Gastronomy
is taking eating and drinking to exciting new
realms with its inspired boutique combinations.
Forget the party pies and Beam and coke,
gnocchi verde with candied walnuts washed
down with apple and cucumber martinis is the
cocktail cuisine of now.
Made with top-shelf spirits, all cocktails are
designed to complement the nuances, tastes
and textures of the 12 (and counting) deluxe
canapes on Cocktail Gastronomy's menu. Call

An Oxford Street icon for the better part of a dec-
ade, Retro Betty’s Café has fipped her last home-
made burger and the eponymous Betty is going to
slip out of her stilettos and into something a little
more comfy for a well-earned break.
Not only will the popular restaurant on the
Leederville strip be remembered for its pioneering
spirit in terms of gourmet burger bars, it'll also
go down in foodie folklore for some decidedly
tongue-in-cheek advertising ("What's a clown
know about real burgers? Macnuth'n").
In addition to offering a consultancy service to
the hospitality industry, proprietor Michael Wiss
and his wife have a new venture in front of them --
But moving forward, taking over the space
SOUTH WEST UPDATE
Summer's the time of year when most of WA
flocks to the South West to soak up sun, surf, food
and wine. Here's a quick rundown of gastronomic
going-ons in the region and what out-of-towners
can look forward to.
Those planning to call past Busselton to check out
how renovations of the town's landmark Jetty are
going will notice the nearby Equinox has also been
bitten by the makeover bug.
The cafe, bar and restaurant all sport a relaxed
modern air that suits the modern Australia feel of
both the venue and food.
Speaking of which, owner Peter Gordon
reckons you won't find a better curry in the South
West outside Equinox's Sunday curry night.
Cumin see for yourself if Peter speaks the truth.

Congratulations to Casellas Wine-Tapas-Grill in
Bunbury for being named Australia’s best themed
restaurant at the 2009 Savour Australia National
Awards for Excellence. Owner Jason Casella says
the win is not only a boost for everyone at the
restaurant, but also the region as a whole as it
proves that Bunbury can hold its own food-wise
on both a state and national level.

Fiore's thoughts on the popular waterfront restaurant.
It hasn't even been open for 12 months, but Must
Margaret River is already raking in the plaudits.
Just as its Highgate sister restaurant Must Winebar
did when it opened in 2002, the new Must won
this year’s Gold Plate for Best New Restaurant.
It also took home the Gold Plate for Licensed
Dining (Country). A stop at the bustling seven-
day eating and watering hole is, without question,
a holiday must. 107 Bussell Highway, Margaret
River, (08) 9758 8877.
vacated by Michael and Betty’s departure will be
a new pizzeria from Theo Kalogeracos of Little
Caesar's Pizzeria fame -- welcome news for those of
us who have had to trek out to Mundaring for one
of Theo's award-winning pizzas.
