the first Cystic Fibrosis Ball, raising an
impressive $42,986. Every year since
then, the ball has increased the amount it
has raised, reaching $109,102 last year at
Burswood. "The Cystic Fibrosis Ball gives us a focus every year," says Wendy.
"It s a way to feel as though we are contributing to the quest to find a cure, a
positive move forwards into the future. And it also brings that all-important
awareness of CF to the general community, so that we can generate more
knowledge and fundraising opportunities."
This year s event will see Perth Wildcats stars joining in and it s clearly
a charity close to the heart of the young players. One player, Stephen Weigh
(pictured above), has dedicated every point he scores on court to raising money
for Cystic Fibrosis WA.
The Capel Vale 65 Roses Ball for Cystic Fibrosis will be held at the Grand
Ballroom, Burswood on May 15. For tickets, call Katya at CFWA on (08) 9346
7343. If you would like to sponsor Stephen Weigh to raise money for CF, contact
Sandra on (08) 9287 0500 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
DISABILITY SAILING PROGRAM
Royal Perth Yacht Club, founded in 1841 and home to the America s Cup fol-
lowing the victory of Australia II, isn t just the glamorous port of call to some
of the most desirable boats in the city. It s also where people with disabilities
are able to hone their sailing skills, with the Sailability program.
Run by a group of safety trained volunteers, the program provides people
with disabilities the chance to share their love of sailing, try out new, testing
skills and perhaps even become a champion in the process. They can join in
all club activities, from trying sailing for the first time, to club racing and high
performance competitions. They are assisted by a carer or experienced skipper
in easy-access boats. Hoists are available for wheelchair users to board the boats,
and so far more than 500 people annually have taken advantage of the scheme.
For more information email Shay Kennare at email@example.com.

DEVLIN'S CHARITY CIGAR DINNER Each year Devlin s Ci-
gar Divan holds a dinner in support of a local Perth charity. Always a fabu-
lous night, it includes a delicious meal, exquisite wines, handmade cigars,
stunning locations and great auction prizes. In November last year, Devlin s
Cigar Charity Dinner raised more than $40,000 for Youth Focus, commit-
ted to the prevention of suicide, depression and self-harm in youths.
INDIANA'S 'BEACH BISTRO LAUNCH' Late last year Indiana s
launch of its new beach bistro raised more than $20,000 for Cottesloe Surf
Life Saving Club, by auctioning off some great prizes -- most notably an
exclusive VIP group dining experience in Indiana s Private Ocean Room. A
cocktail sundowner on the terrace raised several thousand dollars alone.
