IN THE DETAIL
There s been an interesting, Elizabethan-
like trend in Calibre collections of
late, with a number of pieces flaunting
sculptured hoods and face-framing collars
and necklines (left). Need be said, these
are very contemporary adaptations of
the stiffened, high-frilled collars typically
worn by Shakespeare, but the detail they
tend to carry chest-high is arresting all the
same. As well as heavily worked shirts and
sweaters, the Calibre 2010 autumn/winter
collection delivers beautifully streamlined,
black textured suits, skinny ties, dressed up
trenches and a lush, double-breasted silver
pea coat. See it all at calibre.com.au.
Local designer Alvin Fernandez has really played it up in his 2010 autumn/winter
collection, bringing us a mixed bag of cheeky statement pieces to smile about.
Frontrunners in the Ae'men line include a thin grey knitted hood, a half-length jacket
with military undertones and a detailed three-quarter trench. His plump, shimmering
bowties are also very snazzy. You can see the full range in store now at Ae'lkemi,
Shop 22 & 23 Time Square Centre, Claremont, (08) 9284 2736, aelkemi.com.
LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON
Creative genius seems to flow through the
Linneys' bloodline like a gushing downhill
stream. Or perhaps melted gold is more apt?
Either way, Justin Linney's adventurous new
line of male jewellery shows all the talent
and innovation of his father Allen's highly
celebrated designs. Filling a gap in the market
for contemporary masculine accessories,
Justin's range is almost mechanical in nature
-- full of interlocking elements and strong
architectural forms. The Curtin graduate, who
creates each pendant, ring and cufflink here in
Perth, also makes pieces to order. You can find
the Justin Linney Design collection at Father,
177/23 St Quentins Avenue in Claremont.
From classic to hip, old-worldly to new, the gamut of threads
for Perth men this season has never been more far-reaching.
