If there s one thing I have learned about airline
carry-on, it s that you will always need less than
you expect. No, you do not need five gossip maga-
zines and three paperback novels (you ll probably
just watch the in-flight entertainment the whole
time anyway). You also do not need extra berets
in case one does not match your outfit when you
touch down at Fiumicino.
Ditch the excess and leave your carry on to the
essentials: bits of jewellery you don t want to go
missing, your wallet, sleeping pills, 200 packs of
chewing gum... and take it all in one gorgeous bag.
Having only one piece of carry-on is the most lib-
erating feeling in the world -- once you ve checked
everything else, your tired arms are fancy free, and
you are much less likely to mislay anything.
What s more is that your carry on can double
as your day bag; no unattractive backpacks for
you, just a beautiful, buttery leather tote which
becomes all the more gorgeous with wear and will
look a hell of a lot better on the Champs-Elysees
than anything nylon and covered in plastic toggles.
Ae'lkemi is set to deliver their first bridal collection, a selection of works of nuptial bliss by Alvin Fernandez.
Inspired by the architectural lines and folds of master designer Charles James -- an American designer best
known for his amazing sculptural work in the 40s and 50s, expect a modern twist on the classic bridal form.
Draped silk tulle, hand-beaded motifs and cascades of flowing ruffles add to the historic mood yet remain
contemporary to suit the modern bride.
While made to measure bridal wear has always been a staple at Ae'lkemi, with many clients requesting
Alvin's existing designs in whites and cream tones, and others collaborating on an original design with him,
this new collection gives eager and nervous brides alike the chance to try the gown on first -- and the ability to
sleep soundly at night. Ae'lkemi is at Shop 22 and 23 Time Square Centre, Claremont. (08) 9284 2736.

ments to drive you mad. Vintage Princess bags are
available in many shapes and sizes, and can be found
at Department - 667 Beaufort St, Mt Lawley,
