the luxury watch industry, if the recent Baselworld
watch expo in Switzerland is anything to go by.
While visitor numbers were down, the return of
big buyers from the US and improving sales figures
show the demand for quality, precise timepieces is
on the rise once more.
But that s not to say the GFC hasn t left
its mark -- the trend for most companies was
"modesty", with forecasters tipping a move away
from massive, "blingy" pieces to more understated
and functional designs.
It was a theme echoed by Seiko s general
manager of advertising, Shu Yoshino, who told
media: "We have learnt that consumers are

but the pilots here are part of Germany's Air/Sea
Rescue service and often get up close and personal

were coming back in vogue and that anthracite
was "the new black".
