The age of anti-ageing
It hits you like a bullet to a mirror. One day you’re strolling jauntily down
Hay Street, convinced you’re bringing even the pigeons to a halt with
your ridiculous good looks, the next you’re wondering who the hell
vacuumed the life from your face in your sleep. Blotchiness, dryness,
wrinkles, bags, pores the size of the Murray-Darling Basin: they’re
unwelcome additions to any mug, sure, but given the finite lifespan of
our skin cells, expedited by pollution and the scorching rays of the sun,
they’re also tenants we can’t avoid. But that’s not to say we can’t hinder
their cause. While the fuss-free, pre-Beckham men of yore would have
put the job down for soapy water, today’s more image-conscious gents
have other options up their sleeves. Here we bring you seven anti-ageing
products (from a market that’s literally overflowing), and detail some of
their major selling points. Available at Bella Hart Beauty Emporium, 151
Rokeby Road, Subiaco; Mecca Cosmetica, corner St Quentin Avenue and
Bay View Terrace, Claremont; Jana Beauty, 439a Hay Street, Subiaco.
Perricone MD Cold Plasma: 30ml,
$295 from Mecca Cosmetica. Freezes

Dr Brandt Collagen Booster: 30ml,

fine, dry lines by infusing
the skin with a long-lasting
shot of hydration.

Good ties roll
There’s something about Patrick McMurray’s lavishly woven silk ties that makes you want to wind the
clock back and indulg e in a little 1920s frivolity. Which is fitting, given his design inspirations hail from
Jean Patou himself, the man who invented the designer tie (using women’s dress fabrics) in the early
20th century. After launching his typically floral-patterned range in the UK eight years ag o, Patrick
relocated the business to his hometown of Perth, where the fashion scene was just starting to garner
its own identity. “It was perfect timing with the movements in the industry and the recognition Perth
designers were starting to receive,” he says. “I felt with my creative skills and the contacts I’d made
in Europe, I could really make a mark here.” And slowly but surely, he has. The Patrick McMurray
range is now stocked in seven stores across Perth and has already built a strong online customer base
stretching interstate and overseas. While silk ties are the focus, Patrick also applies his decorative motifs
to cufflinks, lapel badg es, tiepins, bow ties and pocket squares. At stor es including Devlins, 411 Hay Street,
Subiaco, and Follow Me, Trinity Arcade, 671 Hay Street, Perth, or check them out at patrickmcmur ray.com.
