• The Tinellei family – of JoJo’s fame – is moving
into the CBD having taken tenancy of the plaza-level
cafe at iconic Perth CBD office project Alluvion at 58
Mounts Bay Road.
• Word is that Clancy’s Fish Pub is looking to open
up something down south. The owners have secured
the old Bannamah Wildlife Park site just out of
Dunsborough and now have to get all the necessary
approvals and licences. With a bit of luck – and lots
of good vibes sent from us all – they hope to be up
and running by the middle of next year.
• Reds Cucina is the new kid on the Leederville
Block, opening its doors at the site of the old Cafe
Villa at 128 Oxford Street. With them serving Italian
fare from 7.30am til late every day, we’re looking
forward to finding out more.
• Look out for the new and improved food and
retail strip in William Street, Northbridge. After
an $11 million refurbishment, restaurateur Nic
Trimboli (the man behind Balthazar, Duende and Il
Lido) is launching a new restaurant venture there
and Flipside burgers has also taken up a spot.
Just around the corner from the new State Theatre
Centre (due to open late this year), the strip will still
be home to the popular Hare Krishna Restaurant.
Meet and eat
Talented, young and vibrant, Sophie Budd has
the world at her feet. An emerging chef who
has worked with English culinary geniuses
Jamie Oliver and Rick Stein, Sophie is spicing
up the Perth cooking scene. Combining
Oliver’s cooking practices with creativity and
talent, Sophie has established a simple and
award-winning cooking style of her own.
Her speciality? Pasta and all things Italian.
She moved to WA from Cornwall two years
ago and is now catering for dinner parties
as well as conducting cooking classes at The
Cooking Professor in Mt Lawley, Upper
Crust in West Perth and Kitchen Warehouse
in Osborne Park. We liked the sound of
‘Meet and Eat’ classes she’s doing with The
Cooking Professor. Six single guys and girls
come together to learn to cook, “a relaxed
and fun way to meet and enjoy the company
of others”. They are looking for more men
to join so they can set classes for October
and November. For more information about
Sophie’s cooking classes or Meet and Eat, visit
thecookingprofessor.com.au or sophiebudd.
