Home' Scoop : Scoop 53 Spring 2010 Contents THE SUITE | Shenton Park
It’s not hard to understand why the relaxing of
small bar licences has been so enthusiastically
welcomed. In a society where a sense of
community is being alarmingly eroded, it’s
great to find new, small, local bars where you
can drop in for a drink, food and a chat.
Run by the people who brought us the
Cabin in Mount Hawthorn, the Suite has a
university-town chic with small table lights,
mismatched chairs and a cosy chesterfield-
clad room on one side. It’s like a hairstyle that
takes a lot of effort to create an effortless look.
At first the wine list was expensive
and limited. But they’ve listened to their
customers and now, the ever-changing
list features a good choice of local and
international offerings, plus a variety of
cocktails. Cocktails are about $15 and
those I’ve tried have been well-mixed,
except for their rather strange take on the
Mojito – not recommended. The menu is
small and the tapas-style food is impressive.
It feels like this place is open all the time.
Weekend papers and eggs benedict?
Afternoon coffee and cake? Tiny tender lamb
chops, delicious soft shell crab and a dirty
martini at 8pm? A glass of tempranillo at 1am?
It’s all on offer and, wonderfully, I can finally
say that one of these new small bars is my
local. Very sweet indeed!
OPEN Breakfast, lunch and dinner, e ver y day

(08) 9381 2170.
The Suite has a well-stocked bar.
