THE APPEAL Pull up a tall stool
beside the bi-fold windows, not just
for a glimpse of the sea breeze ruffling
Cottesloe’s Norfolk Island pines, but
to feel the love at this hip cantina that
also welcomes in promenaders. Arrive
by sunset for your best shot at the bar
tables. Drinks may morph into share
plates or a full-blown dinner – the
better to try the Italian-heavy wine list.
+ MUST TRY When the wait staff
suggest Prosecco, go with it. Daily,
7.30am til late, 88 Marine Parade,
Cottesloe, (08) 9286 1111.

THE APPEAL Once the full brunt of the Fremantle Doctor has eased, the deep deck is a fine vantage
point from which to imbibe the boat-dotted scene at Fishing Boat Harbour. Neon reflections creep
over the water, but there’s nothing tacky at the sophisticated sibling to Little Creatures Brewery next
door. Acoustic tunes and bluesy jazz meld with the banter of seagulls seeking bliss from the busy
boardwalk fish and chippers below.
+ MUST TRY Toasted sandwiches never looked so good after a concerted innings on Pipsqueak cider.
Wednesday–Sunday 5pm til late. 40 Mews Road, Fremantle, (08) 9430 5555, littlecreatures.com.au.
THE APPEAL Who needs the beach?
There’s a resolute summer-in-the-
city attitude at Luxe, led by the
mixology department. Interior types
can revel in the summer-focused
cocktail list. Although the outdoor
amphitheatre BamBOO is off limits
except for occasional performances,
the rich cocktail den at Luxe makes a
welcoming retreat for those who like
to celebrate summer inside. Weekends
get super busy; for a calmer interlude,
check out the ice-carving skills of the
bar staff on ‘Sip’ Thursdays.
+ MUST TRY Passiona Sour, the
Aperol-based cocktail known as
‘summer in a glass’. Wednesday–
Sunday 8pm til late. 446 Beaufort Street,
Mt Lawley, (08) 9228 9680, luxebar.com.
