Stylist Romy Frydman worked on glossy
fashion mag azines (including Marie Claire, Elle
and Grazia) before launching her own blog,
Style Me Romy, a portal for all things style
with a uniquely Australian flavour, in 2009. She
shares her fashion industry insights.
Q/1 How would you define your style? I try
to look effortlessly put tog ether... So I suppose
classic, but slightly undone.
Q/2 You have worked extensively as
a stylist at glossy magazines – how is
creating a blog different? The freedom... is
incredible, it can be 100 per cent your vision.
I’ve encountered many limitations working on magazines. It’s an amazing
feeling to do what you love and have people respond positively to it.
Q/3 You’ ve dressed countless celebrities– who has been your favourite
to date? I style Sarah Murdoch, Miranda Otto and Claudia Kar van and I
adore them all. They’re friends now – it’s hard not to be friends with these
three g orgeous, extremely talented and clever individuals. We share personal
moments, especially when I see them in the nude half the time I’m with them!
Q/4 Your essential items for summer? Oh, a great swimsuit (colours are
great this season), loafer-type slippers, Lover shorts, loads of Bassike and
Nathan Smith t-shirts and sexy t-shirt dresses, lingerie by Lonely Hearts to wear
under those nothing fabrics. ACNE jeans and a pair of Celine heels for evening.
Q/5 Which blogs inspire you? Garance Dore and Jak&Jill. I had dinner
with Garance and it was after that I started my blog. She explained that it
didn’t need to be intrusive and that it can be all about your work – that type
of personal, not eg o-driven, personal. Visit Styleromy.com.

This fashion lover is one of WA’s most
established bloggers with an award-winning
blog, Karen Cheng’s Fashion and Life. We
discover her style and inspirations
Q/1 You combine posts about fashion and
everyday life – why? I feel it’s what makes
my blog unique. I write about things I enjoy
and things that inspire me – hanging out with
my children, cooking and entertaining, tending
my vegetable patch, and fashion and online
shopping. I aspire to maintain balance in my life.
Q/2 How would you describe your style?
Clean lines, simple forms and the classic
silhouettes of fashion history. But I also enjoy experimenting with styles that
are on-trend, too. So, it’s kind of a ‘modern classic’ look.
Q/3 What are the key trends for summer? Pastel colours... Try white lace
dresses, nude silk shirts and pastel skirts. Military, too. Think khaki jackets,
cuffed shorts and lace-up boots. Another trend is lady-like, simple styling
from the 50s and 60s. Swing skirts, longer hemlines, tailored cuts.
Q/4 Where do you shop? Well, as a child of the internet age, I expect to
shop all over the world, all at once. And I do! I shop on Ebay, at op shops,
department stores and high-street fashion chain stores as well as my favourite
boutiques on King Street and in Leederville and Subiaco. I’m loving the small
indie boutiques on William Street and in Mount Lawley, too.
Q/5 Which blogs inspire you? Cupcakes and Cashmere, Le Blog de Betty
and Fashion Toast. Visit karencheng .com.au
