PLAY ESPRESSO AND WINE | SUBIACO
There’s a new little cafe and wine bar on Hay Street that is doing things a bit differently. Unlike
most of the new small bars that open late into the night, Play (I love this name) is a laid-back,
groovy little nook that is ser ving fresh and simple fare from breakfast until about 8pm on weekdays.
Phone your lunch order in or, better still, drop in and choose from freshly made rolls, baguettes and
salads and daily specials. Prices are low and a small bar license means you can enjoy a drink as well, with
nearly all wines being by the glass. The coffee is, according to some of my very serious coffee-critic
friends, excellent. The interior is modern and quirky, with the big yellow cow hide taking centre
stag e. Philippe Starck look-a-like chairs, coloured stools and a communal high table add to
the mix. The west end of Hay Street is really taking off, with a plethora of new offices, boutiques,
a supermarket and little restaurants injecting colour and life. Play is a fanastic addition, and sure to
become a favourite of the after-work crowd. Shop 4/502 Hay Street.
