Who needs Oprah? For a few days in October, Perth and its
iconic Kings Park vista will be eyeballed in more than 50 countries
when images are beamed around the world during the biennial
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth
The view from Fraser’s restaurant – following a $9
million spruce up – may inspire some momentous
decisions when CHOGM’s official leaders’ retreat
convenes in Kings Park in October.
It may also inspire some travel plans. About
1000 media types are expected to descend from
around the globe, no doubt using our iconic view
as the backdrop to their coverage of the meaty
talks between world leaders (all the dry stuff
happens at the convention centre).
It’s the kind of exposure money can’t buy, and
Tourism WA has been quick to appoint somebody
whose job it is to make sure the visiting journos
are alerted to the host city’s bounty.

of the Commonwealth doesn’t, in fact, come near
