BEST OF performance
w DICKENS’ WOMEN
BAFTA-award-winning actress Miriam
Margolyes puts in an epic performance
as 23 Dickensian characters.
March 30-31, His Majesty’s Theatre,
Apart from actual medicine, laughter is the
best medicine. I’d love to see every Aussie
getting off the couch and going out to catch live
comedy at least once a year. It’s good for your
mind, your soul and makes you a 25 per cent
better lover (according to my own research).
The holy grail for me would be to perform
sketch comedy at The Second City, Chicago.
So many of my favourite improv and sketch
comedians – Mike Myers, Amy Poehler, Steve
Carell and Tina Fey – started out there. It would
be an honour to perform on that stage. Heck,
I’d be happy just to clean the toilets.
I’d love to raise awareness of depression
in young people. When I was a wee
whippersnapper I suffered from the dreaded
black dog. I would like kids today going through
the same thing to know that no matter how bad
things seem, there is always someone you can
talk to and that life will always get better.
Eddie Izzard is one of my absolute
inspirations. He’s a stand-up comedy genius.
I’d love to ask what inspires him and simply
thank him for showing a young, dorky Perth
comedian that it’s OK to be different.
I’m really excited about bringing my new
show to Perth. I’ve never worked harder
on anything in my life. My team and I are
really proud of it. I think you’re really going to
love it. Yes, you!
