What do you love about the location/area?
Maylands is eclectic (a bit like my personality). It’s
filled with fab people from all walks of life. It is
emerging. It has super architecture and once the
ballerinas move in and the bars open... watch out,
the fun will really begin. The community gives a
real hoot about its local businesses and has been
craving progress for so long, which gives us a great
deal of encouragement.
Describe the retail space you have created.
Warm, welcoming and soul-filled. Women and
men love it. There is something unique in every
cor ner. The furniture was sourced from around
the globe – art deco finds that have heart. Our
dressing rooms have been appreciated with
comments like, “Oh my goodness, this is huge, I
can even bring in the pram!” The music sets the
scene and the scent of our own candle fills the air
with love. You feel like you belong!
Have you introduced eco-awareness to the
business? Yes, we are very aware. From recycling
to upcycling, to the quality of fabrics we use, to
the styles we bring in or design. From cardboard
coat hangers, to the bags we use, to the furniture,
to emailing our customers their receipts. We are
constantly looking to innovate in this area.
Describe the clothing you stock? Eclectic!
Quality. It’s a walk-in robe. Classic to
contemporary with some stunning vintage and
pre-loved finds thrown in. I love celebrating
fashion and jewellery from the past so we carry
excellent quality pieces from across the globe, from
new season to seasons of yesteryear. Australian
labels and international leaders in their field... we
are constantly sourcing.
Can’t live without? My husband, Paul, and
Samantha and Stanley, my schnauzer dog family.
While Paul may question my ideas from time to
time, the schnauzers wag their tails graciously – it’s
a perfect blend.
